OUTDOOR SHOOT WITHOUT LIGHTING EQUIPMENT
How to make postprocessing of outdoor pictures without lighting equipment
Sometimes we don't have any lighting equipment in outdoor shoot and natural lighting conditions are so tough that it seems at first sight it is not available to take picture at all. For example, sun looking at the back of model. Making right exposure on surrounding objects we are getting only black silhouette of model. Like that.
And there are a lot of reasons to use only this perspective. What to do? Modern digital cameras have very wide dynamic range and if we shoot RAW we can fix this situation.
We have to create several images with different exposure from this RAW. Why we should do it using RAW, not curves in Photoshop. The answer is because of quality of picture. RAW allows us to change exposure for 2-3 stops without loss of quality. TIFF, even 16-bit, with changing exposure so dramaticly will deteriorate image. You will see noise, pixelization, color strains.
Thatís why I take RAW file and make 3 images with different exposures. The first one for model.
The second one for surrounding buildings.
And the third for the sky behind the model.
Then I compile these thee images inti one Photoshop project, create mask for every layer and paint areas I need from every image with white brush. Like that.
It takes 20-30 seconds. Getting picture like that.
Then color, contrast correction and we getting final picture.
You see it looks nice. Not like initial picture. Good Luck.
